MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is thrilled to announce its win for Best Mainstream Brand in the 2017 ALG Canadian Residual Value Awards for the third year in a row. As well, four separate Subaru models achieved segment awards.
ALG is the industry benchmark for projecting future residual values and depreciation data, and the ninth annual ALG awards honoured 2017 vehicles predicted to hold their value better than any other vehicles in the segment. In particular, the Best Mainstream Brand award recognizes a brand that retains its value better than all other mainstream brands in Canada. The 2017 award marks Subaru's third consecutive win, an impressive milestone that Subaru has repeated twice in the history of the ALG awards.
"Consistent product execution and practical sales strategies have resulted in three consecutive Residual Value Award wins for Subaru among Mainstream Brands. Legions of enthusiastic owners have transformed Subaru from a niche alternative brand to the envy of the automotive industry, boasting sales increases that continue to fall short of ever-growing demand. The result is high transaction prices, low incentives and residual values that top the competition", said Jim Nguyen, President of ALG
"Being named Best Mainstream Brand in the 2017 ALG Canadian Residual Value Awards, for the third year in a row, is further proof of what Subaru owners experience for themselves – a Subaru offers excellent value for the money," said Shiro Ohta, chairman, president and CEO of Subaru Canada. "When we consider our new ALG acknowledgements and couple it with IHS Automotive's report that fully 98 percent of all Subaru vehicles sold in Canada over the last 10 years are still on the road today, we get a strong winning combination of quality, reliability and value."
The first of four segment awards recognized the Subaru Impreza as the 2017 Compact Segment winner. Never placing out of the top two in this segment, and winning a cumulative seven times in nine years, Impreza continues to be an excellent choice for durability and reliability.
"In the hyper-competitive Compact segment the Impreza sets itself apart by offering the trademark Subaru Boxer engine and standard All Wheel Drive in both sedan and wagon variants," said Jim Nguyen. "Combined with the brand's legendary durability, the legacy of the Impreza has earned its place at the top of its class, winning the Residual Value Award for the all-new 2017 model."
For the seventh consecutive year, the Subaru Outback received a Canadian Residual Value Award in the Midsize Utility Vehicle – 2 Row segment. This is especially notable as ALG's Residual Value Awards have only been announced in Canada for the past nine years.
"The quintessential Subaru earns its seventh consecutive Residual Value Award for delivering exactly what discerning customers demand among Midsize Utility 2nd Row Seating segment vehicles: efficiency, safety, and well behaved on-road dynamics wrapped in an attractive and clean design," said Jim Nguyen.
The 2017 Subaru Crosstrek received the 2017 ALG Canadian Residual Value award in the Subcompact Utility segment, making it the second consecutive win for the compact crossover that has made such an impact on the automotive marketplace.
"Boasting traditional Subaru features like standard AWD and rugged off-pavement capability and styling, the Crosstrek has proven to be the latest in a long line of Residual Value Award winning vehicles in the Subaru portfolio. Innovative safety features like Siri Eyes Free and EyeSight wrapped in a sporty design check all the boxes for discerning and value conscious consumers in the booming Subcompact Utility segment," said Jim Nguyen.
In the hotly contested Sports Car segment, the Subaru WRX and WRX STI offer thrilling performance, year-round versatility, dependability as well as a very appealing entry price. These attributes help the WRX and WRX STI take home top honours as 2017 Best Sports Car for the second time in a row, and the sixth time in nine years.
"Subaru's strong consumer perception, and long-standing reputation as one of the leaders in turbo-charged performance vehicles, has positioned the WRX as the de facto choice for consumers looking for the perfect blend of performance and safety," said Jim Nguyen. "For a new generation of performance enthusiasts nothing compares to the raw power and gripping all-wheel drive of the Subaru WRX. With the support of the Subaru brand and a proven legacy of high performance, the WRX has been awarded the ALG Residual Value Award for each of the three years it has been available as a stand-alone model".
In addition, the 2017 Subaru Legacy achieved second place in the very popular Midsize segment, making this the third consecutive year that Legacy has finished in the top two. The 2017 BRZ also finished second in its Sports Car segment, its fifth year in a row with a top two placing.
The annual ALG Canada Residual Value Awards recognize automakers' outstanding achievements for vehicles that are predicted to retain the highest percentage of their original price after a three-year period for luxury brands and a four-year period for mainstream brands. Awards are given in 27 vehicle categories as well as for the two brands with the highest overall predicted residual values among all mainstream and premium vehicles. This year's awards are based on 2017 model year vehicles.
