MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. is excited to announce the release of the new 2015 Subaru Impreza this fall, which features new exterior and interior styling, enhanced infotainment systems, more standard features, improved fuel economy and the availability of Subaru's advanced driver assist system, EyeSight. Available in sedan and hatchback variations, the new 2015 Subaru Impreza elevates its longstanding qualities of being extremely capable, versatile, fun-to-drive, safe and fuel efficient in the compact segment to new heights.
The 2015 Subaru Impreza continues to be offered with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a 5-speed manual transmission and available Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). New to the Impreza model lineup is the addition of available active safety, with Subaru's EyeSight driver-assisted safety system being offered on the compact vehicle for the very first time.
Praised Safety
Standard safety equipment on all 2015 Impreza models is a newly added backup camera, front dual-stage airbags, driver knee airbag, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags.
The current fourth generation Subaru Impreza (excluding WRX and WRX STI models) has been an annual Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Building on a solid foundation, the 2015 Impreza now has the addition of the EyeSight system available on the optional Technology Package, which also includes a proximity key with push button start and steering responsive fog lights. The EyeSight system integrates Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning by utilizing Subaru-developed stereo camera technology. The active safety technology continues to receive praise throughout the industry and is one of the highest-rated front crash prevention system by the IIHS. Based on previous results of Subaru vehicles with this system present, the 2015 Impreza is projected to achieve an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ accreditation.
Fun, yet efficient
The Impreza has always been offered in a variety of styles and trims and one thing remains as a constant - it has always been fun to drive. The 2015 Subaru Impreza retains that quality and ups the ante, taking fuel efficiency to the next level while remaining to be an all-road and all-weather capable, all-wheel drive, dynamic driving compact car.
New for the 2015 model year, all Subaru Impreza will be equipped with Partial Zero-Emission Vehicle (PZEV) rated 2.0-litre SUBARU BOXER engines that are more fuel efficient and better for the environment. PZEV equipped vehicles produce zero evaporative emissions, offering extremely clean emissions and make the most of every drop of fuel. Capable of achieving 8.5 L/100 km in the city and 6.4 L/100 km on the highway, the 2015 Subaru Impreza promises to be one of the most fuel efficient compact cars in the segment, especially when noting its All-Wheel Drive drivetrain compared to the competition.
Designed to impress
The 2015 Subaru Impreza exterior design has been refreshed. Most notably, the front fascia now welcomes a new chrome grille, fog light design and 2015 WRX-style side view mirrors, while the 4-Door sedan also adds a revised rear bumper look and standard spoiler. New 16-inch alloy wheels are available on Touring Package trims, and a high luster 17-inch wheel is new on Limited Package versions.
Inside, Subaru has significantly upgraded all infotainment features in the 2015 Impreza. The Impreza system provides AM/FM stereo with SiriusXM satellite radio, Radio Data Broadcast System, in-dash CD player, 6.2-inch multi-function touchscreen display, Subaru STARLINK connectivity with Aha smartphone integration, rear-view camera, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and audio streaming, iPod control capabilities, a USB port and an auxiliary input jack.
The upgraded system in Impreza Limited Package trims adds a 7-inch touchscreen navigation unit that offers swipe and scrolling gestures, similar to smartphones and tablets, as well as voice-activated SMS text messaging and iTunes tagging capabilities. An integrated voice command system accepts natural language and phrases and also operates the dual-zone automatic climate control system.
Whether you're driving a 4-Door or 5-Door Impreza, thoughtful interior designs allow for passenger and cargo areas to work together in unison towards efficient space management. The Impreza's considerable cargo capacity is furthered with flat folding 60/40 split rear seats. The 4-Door sedan offers the security of a spacious, separate trunk, with the capabilities to fold the rear seats flat to extend the cargo capacity even further. The 5-Door provides large and versatile cargo capabilities with its proficient rear gate opening which makes loading items easy. All 2015 Subaru Impreza models receive an upgraded seat fabric, shift boot cover and redesigned centre console that integrates the new colour multi-function touchscreen displays.
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
Subaru Impreza models outfitted with a 5-speed manual transmission are connected to a viscous-coupling limited-slip centre differential that provides near neutral handling and maximum control for the driver. Impreza models equipped with Subaru's Lineartronic CVT gain a newly refined version of the Active Torque Split version of Symmetrical AWD. Increasing the fun-to-drive quotient, the CVT has pre-programmed stepped shifting, making the vehicle feel even sportier and providing an impression of gear ratios. An electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch actively controls torque distribution in response to driving conditions and wheel slippage. The system can send additional torque to the rear wheels either proactively or in response to slippage at the front wheels. Taking input from acceleration, steering angle and yaw rate sensors, Active Torque Split AWD optimizes traction and steering response when accelerating through turns and curves, particularly when the road surface is slippery.
Changing the way people think of a compact car
These updates combine to create the best Subaru Impreza yet. The 2015 Subaru Impreza truly is a more capable, safer, flexible, dynamic and fuel efficient compact vehicle than ever before.
