MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce its best-ever September sales — and its second best month on record — as the brand continues to chase its seventh consecutive annual sales record.
Canada-wide, the brand posted impressive results, with 5,622 units sold — an increase of 9.4 per cent over the same month last year, which previously held the record for best September sales. That continues an impressive streak for SCI, with the brand posting sales records for every month of 2018 through September, and its two best months of all-time.
Helping achieve that record sales success in September was the introduction of the all-new 2019 Forester, which arrived at dealers in six well-equipped trims and offering segment-leading safety technology. Buoyed by the new fifth-generation model, Forester posted its best-ever September sales with 1,373 units sold, representing an increase of 39.2 per cent over the same month last year.
"2018 continues to be an excellent year for Subaru in Canada," said SCI president, chairman and CEO Yasushi Enami. "As we strive towards our goal of achieving yet another annual sales record, I am confident that we can continue to exceed customer expectations with our fantastic product lineup and strong dealer network."
Beyond the results posted by Forester, the strong September sales resonated across the Subaru lineup, with many models posting impressive sales tallies for the month. Crosstrek continues to appeal to customers across the country with its combination of city-sized dimensions and go-anywhere ability, with the compact SUV nipping at the heels of Forester with 1,356 units sold last month.
Not to be outdone, both Outback and BRZ outperformed the same month last year, with gains of 3.9 per cent and seven per cent, respectively, while the all-new 2019 Ascent contributed admirably as production of the full-size SUV with seating for up to eight people ramps up at Subaru's assembly plant in Indiana.
Regionally, sales were up across the country, with all regions posting gains compared to the previous September. Sales in Atlantic, Quebec and Western regions were up six per cent, 9.3 per cent and nine per cent, respectively, while Ontario posted a double-digit increase of 10.4 per cent to become the first region ever to surpass 2,000 units sold in a month, with a final tally of 2,121 sales.
SCI closed out the third quarter of 2018 with sales of 15,701 in the July-through-September period — an increase of eight per cent compared to the same quarter last year. Year-to-date, sales stand at an impressive 43,577 units, up 6.3 per cent compared to the previous year, as the brand pursues its seventh straight annual sales record.
