Subaru entrants claim seven spots in the final rally of the season.
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce Subaru Rally Team Canada's win in the final event of the Canadian Rally Championship season, the Rally of the Tall Pines, which was held this past weekend in Bancroft, Ontario.
The conclusion to the 2012 season was victorious yet drama-filled for Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Pat Richard and co-driver Alan Ockwell. In a battle for the lead, Richard and Ockwell suffered two flat tires and severe brake impairment after front brake damage caused the rear brakes to overheat and catch fire. Despite these setbacks on the final three stages, the duo pressed on for a first-place podium finish, earning Subaru second place overall in the manufacturer's championship.
"It's nice to see a good race result for the team," said Richard. "The guys have been working so hard for so long... It's a good change."
Ugo Desgreniers and Erik Kirby also claimed a spot on the podium with a third-place finish in their Subaru WRX STI. In total, seven Subaru vehicles finished in the top ten.
The Canadian Rally Championship comprises six events held nationwide in a season that runs from February to November. The series is presented by Subaru Canada, supported by Yokohama Tire Canada and features a contingency program from Subaru Canada. The Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS) is the official sanctioning body for rallying in Canada. Rally car racing is often described simply as "real cars, real roads, real fast." The all-season motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve blistering speeds over closed-road courses that typically cover more than 150 kilometres of gravel, dirt or snow-covered roads. Fans can get up close to the cars in the service areas and catch all the action from specially designated spectator points located at the best spots on the route.
