Summitt Energy and Covenant House Help to Keep Toronto Youth Warm This Winter

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 23, 2015 /CNW/ - Summitt Energy has proudly donated to Covenant House Toronto in order to help with their winter 'Crisis Shelter' for youth.

"The extreme cold weather this winter has been a shock to everyone," said Gerry Haggarty, President of Summitt Energy. "We are happy to support Covenant House in their efforts to keep Toronto youth warm and off of the streets."

It is estimated that there are at least 10,000 homeless youth in Toronto during any given year and as many as 2,000 on a given night. With the cold, bitter temperatures that hit our city during the winter months it is no surprise that Covenant House's 94 bed crisis-shelter runs at capacity nightly. Covenant House provides a welcoming environment so kids can take their first steps towards a safe and independent future. More than a place to stay, Covenant House provides 24/7 crisis shelter and transitional housing on-site and in the community along with comprehensive services, including education, counselling, health care, employment assistance, job training and aftercare.

"We are most grateful for Summitt Energy's help, especially since we've been having such cold weather and as many as 122 youth to care for every night," says Christine Foisy-Monk, Covenant House Associate Director of Development. "The help of companies like Summitt Energy enables us to ensure we can provide a safe, warm place for homeless kids."

Summitt Energy feels privileged to have been able to lend a hand to Covenant House during this cold winter season. This donation is part of the ongoing relationship between Summitt Energy and Covenant House.
