TORONTO, Sept. 16, 2015 /CNW/ - Sun Life Financial announced today that it will donate $50,000 to the Red Cross as it responds to the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis. The contribution will come from the Sun Life Financial International Response Fund at the Canadian Red Cross, which will enable support to be deployed rapidly to areas in need.
Millions of people have been displaced since the Syrian crisis began five years ago. Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of people seeking refuge after fleeing their homeland to escape violence and unrest. The Canadian Red Cross is seeking to aid Syrian refugees by providing them with food, water, and medical care.
The Sun Life Financial International Response Fund, the first international corporate sponsorship of its kind, was established in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross in 2005 to help it accelerate emergency response to large-scale international crises. Administered by the Canadian Red Cross, the Fund has helped provide immediate relief and resources to natural disasters and crises in Canada and around the world.
