Albertans will be able to purchase Sundial's locally grown cannabis in 2018
CALGARY, Aug. 22, 2018 /CNW/ - Albertans will have the first opportunity to enjoy Sundial Growers Inc.'s ("Sundial") locally grown cannabis as the company establishes a supply agreement with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission ("AGLC"). The one-year agreement will allow Sundial to supply AGLC with premium cannabis in 2018 and contains provisions for two additional 1-year extensions.
"Sundial proudly calls Alberta home and we are thrilled to partner with AGLC to make our high quality, locally grown cannabis available to Albertans." said Sundial's Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Stordeur." Sundial has enjoyed a very positive working relationship with AGLC and we commend them for the work they have done to get Alberta ready for adult-use cannabis legalization by October 17th.
The company currently operates a 31,000 square foot facility in Rocky View, Alberta and has recently completed the first phase of its flagship facility in Olds, adding an additional 30,000 square feet of capacity. The second phase of the Olds expansion will add another 210,000 square feet of production capacity and is expected to be operational in Q4, 2018. Between Calgary, Rocky View and Olds, Sundial currently employs over 100 people with plans to employ over 500 people by 2020. Once Sundial's production facilities are fully constructed, the company will have the capacity to grow 120 million grams of dry cannabis and the ability to process over 30 million grams of cannabis extracts.
"Sundial has been transparent and open with AGLC about its capacity and desire to become a trusted supplier of cannabis for Albertans," said Niaz Nejad, AGLC's Chief Operating Officer. "We look forward to working with Sundial and other suppliers to make legal cannabis available to Albertans."
Sundial's proprietary, custom-built flagship facility in Olds has been specifically designed to optimize cannabis cultivation. The multiple modular cultivation rooms allow Sundial to grow small batch cannabis at scale.
"Through our custom designed, state of the art cannabis cultivation modules in Olds, we are confident that Sundial will lead the way in the production of quality cannabis, giving Albertans and Canadians access to consistent, locally grown cannabis," adds Stordeur.
