CALGARY, Oct. 11, 2018 /CNW/ - Sundial Growers Inc. ("Sundial") held an official ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday to celebrate the opening of the company's state-of-the-art flagship facility in Olds, Alberta. The event was held at the facility and included members of Sundial's Board of Directors, company executives and staff, as well as elected officials from the Alberta Legislature, the Town of Olds and Rocky View County.
"We are thrilled to officially open the doors at our flagship facility in Olds, Alberta and we thank everyone who made the time to celebrate the occasion with us," said Sundial CEO Torsten Kuenzlen. "Sundial has proudly established its roots in Alberta and we look forward to making a significant economic contribution in Olds."
Sundial received a cultivation license from Health Canada on September 14th, 2018 for the first phase of the 500,000 square foot facility and the company's purpose-built modular construction method allows for very rapid expansion. Additional cultivation capacity will be added as quickly as Health Canada can grant the required licenses. The facility will be fully built in 2019 and will consist of 140 state-of-the-art, individually controlled cultivation rooms capable of producing over 100 million grams of cannabis annually.
"Sundial is expecting to employ 500 people in Olds once their facility is competed, making them the largest employer in town," said Olds Mayor, Michael Muzychka. "The Town of Olds opened its doors to the cannabis industry and we are pleased that Sundial has chosen to make such a large investment in our community."
Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills MLA, Nathan Cooper added, "Sundial has already provided significant investment into our community and the economic growth of the region. Sundial's plan to employ over 500 people here in Olds will do so much to support local families."
