TORONTO, Oct. 28, 2015 /CNW/ - The much-anticipated and critically acclaimed new series Supergirl took flight Monday night, gaining major super-viewing power as 1.7 million viewers (2+) tuned in to the series premiere on Global. As the #1 drama of the night, across all key demos*, overnight data confirms that the Supergirl premiere beat out all other new fall show premieres against the coveted younger 18-34 demo, as well as adults 25-54. During Monday's action-packed series premiere, viewers got up close and personal with fall's latest Superhero, Kara Zor-El, and her skill set of super-human powers as she jumped off buildings, re-routed airplanes, and stopped oncoming traffic with the force of her body.
With critics across the country praising the new series, from the Toronto Star saying "…this Supergirl is significant" to TV Junkies declaring that Supergirl is "the show we've long been missing in the world of superheroes," the premiere episode ended on a sinister note when viewers found out that Kara's aunt, and her mother's evil sister (also played by Laura Benanti), is out to destroy Supergirl with the ultimate goal of ruling planet Earth.
After premiering Monday night in a one-time only special timeslot of 8:30pm ET/PT, Supergirl returns to its regular timeslot of 8 pm ET/PT next Monday, November 2 on Global. In next week's episode entitled "Stronger Together," when Kara's attempts to help National City don't go according to plan, she must put aside the doubts that she – and the city's media – have about her abilities in order to capture an escapee from the Kryptonian prison, Fort Rozz. Also, Cat pressures James to use his connection to Superman to get her an interview with Supergirl.
