Newly-amalgamated association represents nearly 8000 Canadian supply chain professionals
TORONTO, Sept. 3, 2013 /CNW/ - Today marks the official launch of the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA), Canada's largest association for supply chain professionals. Representing nearly 8000 members working in all facets of the supply chain, SCMA is the country's principle source for education, training, professional development and networking in the field.
SCMA was formed through the amalgamation of two industry leaders: the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) and the Supply Chain & Logistics Association of Canada (SCL). Members of the two associations voted overwhelmingly in favour of the merger in separate votes held on June 12, 2013. The amalgamation has created Canada's preeminent association for SCM professionals.
"SCMA is truly a national organization for supply chain professionals in all disciplines and at all career stages," said SCMA National board chair Mike Whelan. "We are stronger through the sum of our parts and ready to deliver better value and more opportunities for our members and their employers."
SCMA retains PMAC's operational infrastructure, with a national office and 10 Institutes across Canada that deliver professional development events, local networking opportunities, and education and training programs, including the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation, the most widely-held professional achievement in the field and the mark of strategic leadership.
"In retaining the best of the best from both associations, SCMA is committed to being the go-to source for supply chain education, professional development, research and resources in Canada," said SCMA President and CEO Cheryl Paradowski. "Members can count on us to keep them current in the field and employers can count on our training programs meeting their supply chain hiring needs."
The Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) is Canada's largest association for supply chain management professionals. The national voice for advancing and promoting the profession of supply chain management, SCMA sets the standard of excellence for professional skills, knowledge and integrity.
With nearly 8000 members working across the private and public sectors, SCMA is the principal source of supply chain training, education and professional development in the country, and was the first supply chain association in the world to require that all members adhere to a Code of Ethics.
Through its 10 Provincial and Territorial Institutes, SCMA grants the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation, the highest achievement in the field and the mark of strategic supply chain leadership.
SCMA was formed in 2013 through the amalgamation of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada and Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Canada. With a combined history of more than 140 years, today the association embraces all aspects of strategic supply chain management, including:
