The Government of Canada provides funding for the 2020–2023 seasons at the Fred-Barry Room at the Théâtre Denise-Pelletier
MONTRÉAL, March 5, 2020 /CNW/ - Cultural institutions play a vital role in Canadian society. Investments in the arts and culture help build vibrant communities by stimulating our economy, creating good middle-class jobs and offering more Canadians opportunities to enjoy the performing arts.
Ms. Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Member of Parliament (Hochelaga), announced $170,500 in funding for the Théâtre Denise-Pelletier to support programming for the 2020–2023 seasons at its Fred-Barry Room. Ms. Martinez Ferrada made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
This Government of Canada support, made through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund, will go toward the development and presentation of theatre works by Canadian artists, especially plays for young people. It will also boost outreach activities to school audiences to help increase their appreciation of the performing arts.

The Canada Arts Presentation Fund provides financial assistance to organizations that professionally present arts festivals or performing arts series as well as organizations that offer support to arts presenters.
Théâtre Denise-Pelletier is a specialized theatre that produces and presents theatre in Montréal's Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. The theatre was initially founded in 1964 as the Nouvelle Compagnie théâtrale. Today, its mission is to continue introducing people of all ages to the theatre through repertory and modern creative pieces.
The Fred-Barry Room opened in 1977 and is entirely dedicated to new plays and emerging talent. Each season, it features around a dozen original plays as well as classic plays re-invented based on contemporary themes.
