Supporting Ontario's commitment to fire safety in retirement homes
OAKVILLE, ON, July 25, 2012 /CNW/ - The Ontario Retirement Communities Association is committed to the safety and well-being of all residents living in retirement homes in Ontario. The association supports the installation of sprinklers in retirement homes (as defined under the Retirement Home Act) and welcomes today's announcement by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services to expedite the development of recommendations from a technical advisory committee aimed at enhancing fire safety in retirement homes.
"We look forward to continuing to work with the Office of the Fire Marshall and other stakeholders in concluding the technical consultation in an expedited manner with the common goal of ensuring seniors are safe during fire emergencies," said Laurie Johnston, Chief Executive Officer.

- The Ontario Retirement Communities Association is participating on the Technical Advisory Committee - Vulnerable Occupancies, and is providing sector expertise and information supporting fire safety retrofitting in retirement homes.
- The association also supports regular and consistent fire safety training for all home management and front line staff and has led the way in the development of education and training for its members.
