Supporting the Arts in New Brunswick - Government of Canada provides funding in support of Symphony New Brunswick

SAINT JOHN, NB, April 18, 2017 /CNW/ - Wayne Long, Member of Parliament (Saint John–Rothesay), on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced a matching grant of $334,831 for the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation, in support of the programs of Symphony New Brunswick, Inc.

Continued investments in arts and culture ensure that Canadians enjoy access to classical music while musicians benefit from a space in which they can create and showcase their art.

The Government of Canada is providing these funds to the Symphony New Brunswick Foundation as part of a matching program to complement existing fundraising efforts of the Symphony New Brunswick. Matching programs like the Canada Cultural Investment Fund encourage Canadians across the country to invest in local institutions so that future generations can be exposed to a variety of artistic and cultural performances. Strong arts and culture communities help build vibrant cities, where economies grow and the Canadian middle class can thrive.

• Symphony New Brunswick is the largest classical music organization in New Brunswick, and its only full-sized professional orchestra. It produces up to 100 concerts annually and presents an annual season of subscription concerts in Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton, as well as one-off concerts in smaller communities.
• Since 2001, the Endowment Incentives component has provided more than $231 million to the endowment funds of 217 arts organizations in Canada, while the private sector has provided $298 million, for a total of more than $529 million.
• In 2016–17, the Government of Canada was able to match close to 90 cents for every dollar donated by the private sector through the Endowment Incentives component.
