Awarded at 91st Royal Agricultural Winter Fair
TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Page-Crest Excitation Karlie from Arethusa Farm of Litchfield, CT won both the Grand Champion Jersey Female and Supreme Champion at the 2013 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, which closed November 10. "Karlie" was selected as top Jersey from among more than 300 Jersey entries. The Supreme Champion is chosen annually from among the five Royal breed champions: Black-and-White Holstein, Red-and-White Holstein, Ayrshire, Brown Swiss and Jersey. The five judges from each of these categories - who collectively judged more than 1,000 cows this year - consulted one another to select the 2013 all-breed Supreme Champion. Matthew Senecal, farm manager at Arethusa Farms, says Arethusa has a long history of competing at the Royal. Their winning entry "Karlie" was already named Grand Champion at the US-based World Dairy Expo earlier this year. Arethusa farm owners and managers were on hand in Toronto for the announcement and the celebration that followed. "We hope to come back to The Royal for the 2014 show," says Senecal. The 2014 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair runs November 7-16 in Toronto.
