Esurance chose Alberta as first Canadian province for its modern, online insurance offering
TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2015 /CNW/ - A recent Esurance-sponsored survey revealed that many Albertans don't fully understand all aspects of their auto insurance policy and would embrace an online option that provided more clarity and ease. The survey showed that the majority of Albertans believe interacting with their insurance provider online is beneficial for convenience, cost, and simplicity.
"Alberta is an online-savvy province that is among the leaders in Canada in terms of internet usage," said Saskia Matheson, general manager at Esurance Canada. "As so many Albertans have already transitioned important services such as banking and shopping to online and mobile, it seems only natural that insurance would be next."
According to the survey, more than half of Albertans are already leveraging the internet to shop for auto insurance; however, there's a gap between shopping for a quote and being able to fully manage insurance online since the service hasn't been widely available. Now, Albertans are the first — and only — province in Canada to have Esurance as a direct-to-consumer auto insurance option. Backed by Allstate, Esurance allows Albertans to research, purchase, and manage their auto insurance online with direct access to documents and claims services at any time. Esurance also has licensed professionals readily available by phone to offer assistance whenever it's needed.
Although Albertans are internet-savvy and do their research when making auto insurance decisions, the following survey results indicate they still don't fully understand or trust their policies:
To help policyholders assess the impact certain factors might have on their insurance policy, Esurance offers online tools such as the What If™ Calculator. For instance, those considering a new car or relocating to a different city can use the What If Calculator to see how either might impact their rate. To make purchasing auto insurance clearer and simpler, the Coverage Counsellor® tool will help tailor choices so drivers can find coverage options that are right for them.
Lastly, the survey also revealed that two out of every five Albertans who research auto insurance information do so online. Furthermore, Albertans said since they do everything online anyway, it makes sense to extend that to auto insurance. With the arrival of Esurance in Alberta, consumers now have access to a modern, trustworthy insurance option that fits their lifestyle.

About the Study
Leger, a research intelligence group, conducted a quantitative online survey of 959 Albertans. The fieldwork was completed between July 13 and July 16, 2015, using Leger's online panel, LegerWeb. A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of +/- 3.2 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
