65% optimistic of business growth
SASKATOON, SK, May 29, 2014 /CNW/ - Almost two thirds of Saskatoon businesses polled indicated that they were "cautiously optimistic" about business growth, according to a recent survey conducted by MNP LLP and the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce. The survey also found that more than 96 per cent of respondents intend to maintain or grow their capital investment in the City over the next three years.
"The statistics clearly indicate that Saskatoon's business community is on the rise," said Tanya Knight, CA, Regional Managing Partner of MNP LLP in Saskatoon. "More than 80 per cent of respondents either 'agree' or 'strongly agree' that Saskatoon's overall image is steadily improving."
The survey, conducted between April 7 and April 28 of this year sampled 200 Saskatoon business leaders. Respondents included business owners, CEOs, presidents, executive directors, and designated senior corporate officers across all industry sectors.
Other survey findings include:
- 38 per cent of respondents increased the number of people they employ, while 55 per cent maintained staff levels;
- Almost a quarter (23.5 per cent) indicated that hiring/retaining good staff was the "greatest challenge" facing their company;
- 61 per cent believed that the global economic situation had no effect on their business;
- Almost 65 per cent indicated that they expect their company to be performing better 12 months from now.
"We thank MNP for helping our Chamber in its effort to better serve the Saskatoon business community," said Tony Van Burgsteden, president elect of the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce. "The survey is valuable for our work today and will provide a great benchmark for the future."
The survey demonstrates the strong confidence of Saskatoon businesses, a degree of satisfaction with government assistance and efforts, and sound recognition of the Chamber of Commerce's efforts.
