Survey: Toronto Tap Water Taste Rates Among Lowest in Country
Canadian Consumers Weigh in on Water Woes
DELTA, BC, Oct. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - Santevia Water Systems, a leader in alkaline water products, today announced the results of their first annual 'water satisfaction survey.' The survey was designed to take the pulse of Canadian families and consumers on the unspoken issues facing our national water supply.
Key Findings of the Survey:
1) Many Canadians Believe Toronto Water is Wonky
Very few Canadians (outside of Ontario) found Toronto water to be tasteful. Specifically, only 2% of respondents in the Prairies, 2.5% in BC and 3.1% in Atlantic Canada believe Toronto has the best tasting water in the country.
Additionally, when asked about the drinking water taste in major Canadian cities, Toronto placed in the bottom three according to respondents in BC, the Prairies, and Atlantic Canada.
2) Ontarians think Toronto water is wonderful
With a rating of 37.8%, Ontario gave Toronto the second-highest regional endorsement of water taste in the country.
3) BC loves their water best
Asked who has the best tasting tap water in Canada, BC respondents rated their own tap water as tops (58.1%).
BC respondents also claim to consume the most tap water in the country, 60.4% responded that it's the water product they drink the most. This is significantly higher than the national average of 54.1%.
4) British Columbians say their tap water is best (yet filter it the most)
Even though British Columbians claim to love the taste of their tap water, with 36.5% of respondents describing the taste as 'excellent,' they admit to filtering it the most.
Asked what water product they consume the most, BC respondents reported the highest consumption of filtered tap water at 13.3%, followed by the Prairies at 11.6%, Ontario at 11.2%, Quebec at 10.3% and Atlantic Canada at 9.8%.
Santevia insight:
"Properly filtering water should be as much about what you are trying to keep in as what you are trying to take out," said Yvonne Anderson, CEO and Co-Founder of Santevia Water Systems. "BC residents may be more concerned about contaminants (as evidenced by their higher tendency to filter their tap water) but may not be aware that a conventional filtering process is taking out vital minerals and alkaline properties that are essential for a healthy lifestyle."
5) Atlantic Canada may have the country's biggest water woes
Taste: Asked to describe the taste of their tap water, Atlantic Canadians had the significantly highest report of 'bad' at 10.8%, the next highest region was Ontario with 5.6%, BC at 5.2%, Prairie's at 2.8%, and Quebec at 2.1%.
Santevia insight: "Salt water intrusion from the Atlantic Ocean could be a potential factor in the taste of local tap water."
Water system: Asked to rate their satisfaction with the local drinking water system, Atlantic Canadians reported both the highest number in the country for 'very unsatisfied' at 17.0% and the lowest number for 'very satisfied' at 45.5%.
