KITCHENER, ON, March 9, 2018 /CNW/ - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Kitchener Detachment have arrested a male and seized more than one kilogram of suspected cocaine.
On February 28, 2018, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers conducted an examination of an international parcel originating in Aruba. The parcel consisted of a golf bag and a set of golf clubs. Tests determined that the parcel concealed the suspected cocaine.
CBSA turned the parcel over to the RCMP for further investigation. The investigation resulted in a search warrant being executed on Penelope Drive in Kitchener.
Courtney Burke (M), 48 years old, of Kitchener has been charged with:
- Unlawfully importing into Canada a substance included in Schedule I, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance, contrary to the CDSA
- Possession for the purposes of trafficking contrary to the CCC
- Failing to comply with the conditions of a recognizance contrary to the CCC
S/Sgt Fuhrman, the Detachment Commander of Kitchener RCMP, would like to acknowledge the contributions of CBSA and the Waterloo Regional Police Services for their valuable assistance and partnership in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.
Mr. Burke will appear in court on March 9, 2018 at the Waterloo Region Courthouse.
