The Company helps 3 Canadian Braille Challenge Regional Finalists get to the Finals in Los Angeles
OTTAWA, May 29, 2013 /CNW/ - The Braille Challenge recently held its regional competitions where blind students across North America demonstrated their braille literacy skills. Within Canada, Keisha Anderson (Age 14) from Lower Nicola, BC; Ella Yu (Age 9) from Delta, BC; and Rhianna Martin (Age 17) from Campbell River, BC qualified as finalists from their respective regions. Starting from over 1,000 Braille Challenge® contestants in North America, these bright young individuals are 3 of a group of only 60 who qualified for the final round, to be held in Los Angeles, California on June 21-22, 2013. T-Base is pleased to be helping these students and their families travel to Los Angeles this summer, awarding them each with a $1000 donation towards their travel expenses.
"Here at T-Base, we believe strongly that braille literacy is a fundamental and underpinning ingredient of academic success and independent living for blind students and consumers alike," said Jeff Potts, CEO of T-Base. "We are proud to demonstrate this commitment by sponsoring this great event". T-Base Communications produces braille and other alternate formats for educational institutions, Fortune 100 companies and government, to ensure they are communicating most effectively with their blind and low vision students, customers and constituents.
In addition to sponsoring the Braille Challenge and in partnership with Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians, T-Base also offers a $2000 scholarship each year, available to qualifying students in Canada. The T-Base scholarship program, to be awarded in July, helps to fund the educational pursuits of an outstanding blind, deaf-blind or partially sighted student in Canada who is continuing his or her academic education at the post-secondary level. "And as students graduate, they will need ready access to important documents such as bank statements, credit card statements, and the like in order to live independently, including managing their personal finances. We are pleased to serve North America's leading banks (including all five major banks in Canada), telecommunications providers (such as Bell, Rogers and Verizon) and governments to ensure that this information is available accessibly to their blind and low vision customers." added Mr. Potts.
