First ever cheesy stuffed shell has arrived and Canadians willing to trade just about anything to taste it first!
VAUGHAN, ON, May 2, 2016 /CNW/ - Canadian cheese lovers rejoice! The much-anticipated Quesalupa is now available in Canada. What's a Quesalupa? Quite simply, it's Taco Bell's latest innovation that combines two fan favourites – the Chalupa and the Quesadilla – into one delicious item with a new, cheesy interior. The crispy fried shell is filled with melted pepper jack, topped with seasoned beef, cool reduced-fat sour cream, crisp shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese and diced ripe tomatoes.
Since announced in the U.S. in February, Canadians have taken to social media, leaving thousands of tweets, comments and pleas for Taco Bell's epic new menu item to head North, and today, the company's first ever product made with a cheesy stuffed shell arrives in Taco Bell stores across Canada.
A Cheesy Trade
Think the Quesalupa sounds delicious? So does the rest of the country! In fact, when Canadians were polled in a national survey* on what they would do to get their hands on it first, almost half of those asked said they'd be willing to trade something they own for the privilege!
Canadians were so tempted by the cheesy goodness, and here are some of the items that were offered up:
"We know Canadians love Taco Bell but wow, was it amazing to see just how far they'd go to get a bite of the Quesalupa before the rest of the country!, said Veronica Castillo, Head of Marketing and R&D for Taco Bell Canada. "Some of the offers were quite unexpected – like family members and prized possessions. Needless to say, we're thrilled about the enthusiasm our fans have for our latest innovation and are excited to bring the Quesalupa to Canada today – no trades needed!"
A Fan Affair
Taco Bell is known as a brand well in touch with its fans, engaging with them on a regular basis to help make menu decisions. The launch of the Quesalupa is no exception. In fact, to celebrate this epic creation, Taco Bell took to social media with a casting call inviting fans across Canada to participate in a series of videos to help launch the product on Taco Bell's social channels. These videos debuted with a teaser on April 27th and focus on the cheesy goodness of the Quesalupa while transforming fans into the cheesiest version of themselves.
Starting today, cheesy videos featuring Taco Bell fans and the Quesalupa are rolling out in a series of videos, photos and social media posts. The 60-second version here is a taste of what consumers can expect to see.
The Quesalupa will be in Taco Bell Canada stores nationwide for a limited time at a retail price of $4.99.
