An awareness campaign for breast observation that's still relevant!
MONTREAL, Feb. 9, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation is launching today its annual provincial awareness campaign on breast observation, which will run on television, radio, boards and on the Web. For the 4th edition of its awareness campaign on breast health, the Foundation strongly encourages women to take action and practice breast observation to promote early detection of the disease, which can make all the difference.
Even today, 78% of women do not check their breasts regularly, either because they are afraid, they don't know how or are convinced they can't do it. By offering them a variety of resources tailored to their needs, the Foundation hopes to show them that it's a simple act. We believe it is essential to operate several levels of discussion: to inform and equip women but mostly, to address the barriers blocking the transition to action. The new campaign encourages women to visit breastsobservation.org, its information microsite on breast health practices and to call our support hotline at 1 877 990-7171.
"With our previous campaigns, we put the emphasis on what breast observation is, on the signs of breast cancer and on the fact that it's a simple act that any woman can do. Again this year, the Foundation wants women to take action and assume greater control over the health of their breasts", explained Danièle Drolet, Vice President, breast cancer programs and investments. "The important thing is to know and recognize recent and persistent changes and to consult a health professional if need be. It doesn't require any specific technique. The key is to just do it: every woman can!"
About breast cancer
Breast self-observation is a complement to a clinical examination and a mammogram. It's the first step in taking charge of your health. In Quebec, an estimated 6,000 women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis this year, and 20% of them will be under 50, the age before there is systematic mammogram recommended. Breast cancer is the form of cancer that affects the greatest number of women in Quebec and is the second leading cause of death from cancer in women. For these reasons, the Foundation is committed to continuing its breast health awareness efforts.
