CIBC employees to celebrate Think Pink Week in branches across Canada
TORONTO, Sept. 16, 2013 /CNW/ - CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) - From September 16 to 20, CIBC employees across Canada will be hosting fundraising events and encouraging people to participate in this year's Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, taking place on October 6 in 66 communities across Canada.
"With one in nine women in Canada diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, supporting this cause is something CIBC employees are very passionate about," said Christina Kramer, Executive Vice-President, CIBC and National Run Champion. "Think Pink Week kicks-off our official fundraising for the 2013 CIBC Run for the Cure. Last year alone, Team CIBC helped the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation raise more than $30 million for research, treatment, and awareness programs."
This year, CIBC is working with Tracy Moore, Host of Cityline, and Scott McGillivray, Host and Executive Producer of HGTV Canada's Income Property, to encourage Canadians to get involved with CIBC Run for the Cure and show their support for the cause.
For Ms. Moore, a three-time participant and dedicated contributor to the cause, getting involved and fundraising means making a difference.
"I look around me and the number of cancer survivors is growing exponentially," says Ms. Moore, whose family and friends have battled breast cancer. "This tells me that finding a cure can and will happen if we dedicate enough time and resources to great initiatives like the CIBC Run for the Cure."
Scott and Tracy will participate in CIBC's Think Pink Week kick off at Commerce Court in Toronto on September 17 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm., one of the many Think Pink Week events happening across Canada.
"I have lost immediate family and friends to cancer and I'll do what it takes to make sure that doesn't happen again," said Mr. McGillivray, who participated in the Run for the first time last year. "I know cancer can be beaten and I am hoping to be part of the solution by inspiring more Canadians to get involved in the CIBC Run for the Cure."
Canadians are encouraged to take part in this year's CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 6. Participant fundraising efforts will help support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in realizing its vision of creating a world without breast cancer.
"The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is proud of the longstanding support of CIBC, true champions in helping realize our vision of creating a future without breast cancer," said Jane Parsons, co-CEO, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "We hope Canadians are inspired to take part in Think Pink Week activities across Canada and support the CIBC Run for the Cure."
