One-day initiative raises thousands of dollars in support of the bank's BrightWayForward charities
TORONTO, Dec. 2, 2015 /CNW/ - On GivingTuesday, Tangerine joined organizations and communities around the world to celebrate generosity and give to those in need. To mark the occasion on December 1, for every share to @TangerineBank using #GivingTuesday, Tangerine made a donation of $5 to its BrightWayForward charities. By day's end, through the support of Tangerine's social media followers, the bank achieved their maximum fundraising donation amount of $10,000.
Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a one-day charitable giving promotion that was launched in 2012 to kick off the giving season. This is the first year that Tangerine has participated in the day to promote the giving message and celebrate its ongoing sponsorship and community investment program, BrightWayForward.
"Tangerine has a long history of giving back, and this is brought to life through our BrightWayForward program, which focuses on the empowerment of Canadians to in turn build strong communities," says Pam Fabisiak, Manager of Sponsorship and Community Investment at Tangerine. "To align with this, we're happy to support an initiative like GivingTuesday that works to show how important giving back is, and we thought giving an extra $10,000 to our program partners in time for the holiday season would be a nice way to celebrate this."
Beyond GivingTuesday, Tangerine's BrightWayForward program works year-round giving time, resources and expertise with the goal of empowering over 500,000 Canadians. This year alone, Tangerine worked with over 15 partners from coast-to-coast on over 20 initiatives, in addition to Tangerine employees volunteering over 5,500 hours of their time to help carry out the program goals.
"The United Way is dedicated to creating opportunities for Canadians to improve their lives and build better futures, so partnering with Tangerine's BrightWayForward program was a natural fit," said Tony Fedun, Manager of Corporate Philanthropy at the United Way Toronto & York Region. "The program truly aligns with our mission and we're so thankful for Tangerine's ongoing support."
