TORONTO, May 6, 2016 /CNW/ - Starting tomorrow, May 7, 2016, Tangerine Clients can use their existing Tangerine Chequing or Savings Account to make an online donation to the Canadian Red Cross in support of their emergency response to the wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Tangerine will match every dollar donated up to $50,000 with all funds going directly to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal.
A mandatory evacuation has forced all 70,000 Fort McMurray residents to leave their homes in search of safety – the largest fire-related evacuation in the province's history. The Canadian Red Cross has intervened and is on the ground providing life-saving assistance to those affected.
Tangerine is looking at ways to support Fort McMurray Clients affected by the wildfire, including:
- Deferring payments on mortgages, loans and credit cards;
- Re-amortizing mortgage payments to lower monthly costs.
- Crediting client accounts for fees caused by insufficient funds, overdraft, or use of non-Tangerine bank machines.
To donate, Clients can simply log in at tangerine.ca and click "I want to help." Tangerine will be matching donations until Friday, June 10, 2016. The total donated amount collected and matched by Tangerine will also be matched by the Government of Canada.
A tax receipt will be provided by the Canadian Red Cross for donations of $20 or more. Tangerine will provide your name and mailing address to the Canadian Red Cross if you donate.
