MONTREAL, May 3, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The City of Trois-Rivières police department, the Chemin-du-Roy school board and the Carrefour du Cap shopping centre will be meeting soon to discuss solutions for escalating problems regarding vandalism, theft and misbehaviour at the centre.
The temporary measure that was recently put in place—youth to be accompanied by a parent—has been dropped. In spite of the need to urgently tackle the problem, Carrefour du Cap wants to apologize for employing a measure without realizing the impact it could have on teenagers and their parents. The intention was to swiftly ensure security for all clients and all retailers, in face of an increasingly important level of problematic situations.
Multiple interventions by qualified teams (the centre's security, school-based specialists, police services) could not manage to stop the problems caused by an isolated group of youth at Carrefour du Cap: numerous theft reports, increased vandalism, bullying issues against centre employees and clients, forceful entry in common areas or when stores are closing, use of booster lighters in stores, use of bikes and skateboards in the centre—hence the temporary measure implemented.
Scheduled for some time, the first meeting with Trois-Rivières police and the Chemin-du-Roy school board will happen on May 7. This collaborative effort will enable Carrefour du Cap to offer, as quickly as possible, a secure environment to clients, to the area's youth and families and to the business community within the centre. Solutions will be communicated following the meetings.
