OTTAWA, April 29, 2015 /CNW/ - For last-minute tax filing tips, CBC turned to a trusted Collins Barrow adviser, Greg Toner, CPA, CA.
The deadline to file taxes is May 5, but many people still haven't submitted their tax return. CBC's "Our Ottawa" asked Greg to share his expert advice on where to start and what credits to take advantage of.
"A common mistake people make is leaving tax credits unclaimed," said Greg. "For instance, the new Family Tax Cut could mean more savings this year than last."
Greg suggests people consider what has changed in their lives over the past year, to make sure they're not missing any potential credit opportunities. He also explains some of the more complex requirements of filing with CRA and the penalties for late filing.
