Tax Services Firm Ryan ULC Welcomes Budget 2013 Initiatives to Improve SR&ED Program
Continuing to allow claimants and providers to agree on their own fee arrangements will help maintain access to the program for small and medium-sized enterprises
TORONTO, March 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Garry Round, Ryan Principal and President of Canadian Operations, today issued the following statement:
"Ryan commends the government on the changes to the Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) program announced today in Economic Action Plan 2013. These changes should improve the program, reducing compliance costs and deterring questionable claims.
For this program to foster innovation in Canada, the application process must be simple enough to facilitate access by cutting edge companies, while at the same time rigorous enough to deter questionable claims. The changes announced today will help ensure that this balance is better maintained.
Ryan is particularly pleased that the government listened to the unanimous message of the stakeholders it consulted last year – that, allowing claimants the freedom to choose to engage providers through contingency fee arrangements is important to the effectiveness of the SR&ED program. In particular, because contingency fees are essential to ensuring that small and medium-sized enterprises are able to access the program. We are glad to see that the government listened to the stakeholders, and responded accordingly."
