TD Presents 20th Annual Art with Heart for Casey House October 8
Thank you for 25 years of compassion and 20 years of Art with Heart
"…This year's collection continues to build on the tradition of excellence we have seen develop over the last 20 years and reflects the artists' belief that not only this cause, but this auction, are important markers in the Canadian contemporary art world."
-Stephen Ranger, Art with Heart Patron and Auctioneer
TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - TD Bank Group presents Art with Heart, Casey House's signature fundraiser, October 8 at the Carlu.
"At TD, we are proud to support Art with Heart and Casey House in celebration of the twentieth annual auction and the twenty-fifth year of Casey House's presence in the community," says Pamela Meredith, Senior Art Curator, TD Bank Group and member of the Art with Heart Curatorial Committee. "Art with Heart was conceived of twenty years ago as an innovative way to invite the art world to participate in a major charitable fundraising effort. Charity auctions have since proliferated in recent years, but Art with Heart has earned a deserved reputation as an unparalleled contemporary art auction experience, benefiting treatment and support at Casey House, Toronto's HIV/AIDS specialty hospital."
The Art with Heart Curatorial Committee spent a year assembling a collection that is notable for its diversity in price point, as well as subject matter and materials used. Many of the participating artists are recipients of prestigious national and international arts awards, with work in museum collections across Canada and internationally.
This year's 86-lot collection features work by some of Canada's most esteemed contemporary artists, including Angela Leach, David Urban, Kent Monkman, John Scott, Diana Thorneycroft, Marcel Dzama, Fred Herzog, Toni Hafkenscheid and Barbara Astman. Celebrated artist James Lahey holds the unique distinction of participating as a donor to Art with Heart for every one of its 20 years, and noted Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky this year marks his sixteenth donation to Art with Heart with a dramatic, large scale work from his most recent project WATER, launched this month following the TIFF premiere of WATERMARK, co-directed by Burtynsky with filmmaker Jennifer Baichwal.
Art with Heart attracts attention outside Canada as well, and this year's collection includes offerings from several accomplished American artists. Art with Heart is grateful to include a generously donated work by Robert Mapplethorpe, Gorham 1881 Compote. This is the second time the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation has donated to Art with Heart. "Robert Mapplethorpe created his foundation with two philanthropic goals: to support photography at the institutional level and medical research in the area of AIDS and HIV infection," says Joree Adilman, Foundation Manager, Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation. "Our board is very pleased that this gift of an original Mapplethorpe work will advance Casey House's treatment and care for people living with HIV/AIDS."
