TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - Three teachers have received the OTIP Teaching Award for excellence:
- Talia Hunter, Roberta Bondar Public School, Ottawa - Beginning Teacher Category
- Jodie Lang, St. Paul's Catholic School, Alliston - Elementary Teacher Category
- Monica Petrus, Forest Heights Collegiate Institute, Kitchener - Secondary Teacher Category
The award winners were honoured last night at the ceremony held at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites.
The Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan (OTIP) sponsors these awards which are administered by the Ontario Teachers' Federation (OTF). This is the ninth year for the awards.
"We believe that good teaching provides young people with the intellectual resources to count on as they set out to face life's challenges," stated Vic Medland, CEO of OTIP.
"These award winners are representative of all Ontario's teachers" stated Terry Hamilton, President of OTF. "It is a wonderful way for us to recognize and celebrate the excellence of teachers."
TFO presented the Prix TFO Multimédia à l'école to Jason Lemieux, École élémentaire Catholique Saint-Paul in Plantagenet.
OTIP is a non-profit organization serving education employees and their families with reliable, affordable insurance and financial solutions.
The Ontario Teachers' Federation is the advocate for the teaching profession in Ontario and for its 160,000 teachers. OTF members are full-time, part-time and occasional teachers in all the publicly funded schools in the province—elementary, secondary, public, Catholic and francophone.
