OTTAWA, May 4, 2018 /CNW/ - The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General invites members of the public to attend a Team Canada celebration on the grounds of Rideau Hall on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
To celebrate the success of our Canadian athletes at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the Office has partnered with the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee to offer a morning of sporting activities and the opportunity to meet with Team Canada Olympians and Paralympians. Below is what we have in store on this special morning.
9:30 a.m.–12 p.m.
Sporting Activities, PyeongChang Torches and Mascots, and Autographs!
Sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to try out snowboarding with representatives from Snowboard Canada and para hockey with officials from the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Sledge Hockey of Eastern Ontario. The PyeongChang 2018 mascots and torches will be on site for photos with fans. And last but not least, Team Canada athletes will be available to sign autographs following the official portion of the Team Canada celebration event.
10:20 a.m.
Team Canada Celebration Event
The public is invited to gather around Rideau Hall's forecourt to offer a warm welcome to over 200 Olympians and Paralympians and coaches, as they walk up the main drive to the residence.
Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Tricia Smith, President of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), and Marc-André Fabien, President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), will be on hand to officially welcome the Team Canada delegation.
The Governor General, the Minister and the presidents of the COC and CPC will deliver remarks and make special presentations on this occasion. The event will end with athletes mingling with fans and members of the public who have gathered on the grounds of Rideau Hall.
