More than $45 million raised over two decades in support of a future without breast cancer
TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2016 /CNW/ - CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) – Yesterday nearly 100,000 Canadians, including 15,000 members of Team CIBC came together to honour friends and family affected by breast cancer in communities across Canada for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) CIBC Run for the Cure.
This year marked a significant milestone for CIBC – 20 years of partnership, raising nearly $3 million for CBCF in support of innovative breast cancer research, treatment and support services for the estimated one in nine women in Canada who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
"On behalf of Team CIBC, I want to thank the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for 20 great years of partnership and all the work they do to make a difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer," says Christina Kramer, CIBC's Executive Vice-President and its Executive Run Sponsor. "It's through the commitment and passion of Team CIBC together with our clients, employees and thousands of Canadians that individuals touched by this disease are living longer, healthier lives after diagnosis."
Over the last 20 years, CIBC and CBCF have worked hand-in-hand, with clients, communities and volunteers across Canada to grow the CIBC Run for the Cure into the largest, single-day, volunteer-led event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research. CIBC's involvement started with a handful of dedicated and passionate employees, and has since grown to be one of the bank's largest employee driven fundraisers.
"For the past two decades, CIBC has been our strongest and most dedicated partner. In 20 years, Team CIBC has raised an extraordinary $45 million for the cause," said Lynne Hudson, CEO, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "Thanks to their unparalleled commitment to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, we have been able to help reduce breast cancer mortality rates by 44 per cent by investing in groundbreaking research and programs to improve the lives of those affected by breast cancer."
This year, Team CIBC helped CBCF raise an estimated $17 million through pledges, donations and fundraising initiatives.
