- Team Koe takes home $24,000 of $100,000 tournament purse -
MEDICINE HAT, AB, Nov. 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Following five days of non-stop competitive curling action, Edmonton's Team Koe was crowned champion of the Canadian Open today in Medicine Hat, AB - the second event of the 2013-14 Grand Slam of Curling season.
With a 7-1 record in the tournament, skip Kevin Koe and his team scored a 5-4 victory over Team Gushue (St. John's, NL) in an exciting final. Koe takes home $24,000 of the combined $100,000 purse awarded to the 18 men's teams competing in the tournament, which was held at Medicine Hat Arena in Medicine Hat, AB.
"It feels great. Obviously, when you make a big shot at the end to win it feels even better and makes it more exciting," said skip Koe. "It especially is great when it is happens at a big event like the Canadian Open."
This is the second Grand Slam win for Koe, following his 2012 victory at the Masters. Koe joins Coldwater, ON's Team Howard as victors of the 2013-14 Grand Slam of Curling season, following Howard's win at the Masters earlier this month in Abbotsford, BC.
