MONTREAL, Feb. 14, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) President Douglas Finnson, given the late hour, is obligated to advise all Locomotive Engineers, Conductors, Trainmen and Yardman at CP that we do not have a negotiated agreement in place at this time, and therefore we have no alternative but announce to our membership they should prepare themselves for the midnight deadline.
Instructions have been issued throughout each TCRC Division, and CP has agreed to the protocol to follow in shutting down operations and returning our members to their home locations.
The Teamsters will continue to negotiate throughout the evening to work towards a fair settlement, and will not walk away from the negotiations table.
"We require sufficient fatigue countermeasures to protect our members safety and health. An effective fatigue management system requires that our members must be in control of their ability to obtain sufficient rest, and the employer must respect the rest provisions within the Collective Agreement", explains Finnson. These are two key components of the Union position.
The TCRC has already negotiated a broad set of successful and effective fatigue countermeasures with other employers and fatigue management remains a fundamental component of Collective Bargaining within the Canadian rail industry.
The Teamsters represents 115,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
