Enables channel partners in the U.S. to bundle hardware, software and services into a scalable and affordable consumption model
CLEARWATER, Fla., Oct. 10, 2018 /CNW/ -- Tech Data (Nasdaq: TECD) today announced the launch of "Tech-as-a-Service for Advanced Solutions," a new utility-based billing program that allows customers and end users in the U.S. to bundle data center hardware, software and services into a consumption-based pricing model in which end users pay only according to the resources used. This program allows customers to have private, dedicated hardware either on premise or in a colocation and pay for it as if they were in the public cloud.
"We've seen a critical shift in the way organizations want to pay for and use their data center technology," said Jolea Kidd, vice president of Financial Solutions, Americas, at Tech Data. "Many have chosen not to adopt an absolute public cloud strategy, and our new program gives them the best of both worlds—the ability to pay and consume as if it were public cloud, but with dedicated hardware that resides in the location of their choice."
Specific benefits to channel partners of Tech Data's TaaS-Advanced Solutions offering include:
- Flexibility: end users pay only for what they consume each month, with no minimum amount
- Treatment: program structure allows costs to be treated as operational expenditures (OPEX) versus capital expenditures (CAPEX)
- Monitoring: tools allow visibility into consumption as well as chargebacks to specific areas
Industry analyst firm IDC predicts that, by 2020, consumption-based procurement in datacenters will have eclipsed traditional procurement through improved "as-a-service" models, thus accounting for as much as 40 percent of enterprises' IT infrastructure spending1. Through Tech Data's TaaS-Advanced Solutions offering to channel partners, end customers have the ability to deploy only what's needed, increase worker productivity, reduce IT and procurement workload and cut costs by bundling hardware and services.
Tech Data's TaaS for Advanced Solutions builds on the successful launch of its as-a-service offerings in December 2017 and will enable many customers to augment what they currently offer their end users. By building services in, many end users can add services they normally would not be able to afford. Additionally, through the monitoring software, the Tech Data customer will be able to see when the end user is close to capacity and work with them to add additional hardware as necessary. This is not only a tremendous value-add, but an additional hardware sale that they may not have captured in the past.
