Technologists at Grand River Hospital opt for OPSEU
KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON, March 17, 2017 /CNW/ - Biomedical and renal technologists at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener-Waterloo voted this week to join the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU).
Ninety-two per cent of the technologists opted to unionize.
"The vote we received at Grand River is another sign that hospital professionals look to OPSEU for strong leadership with a proven track record of delivering results for members across Ontario," said Sara Labelle, chair of the union's Hospital Professionals Division and Regional Vice-President for OPSEU Region 3. "We warmly welcome our newest members from Kitchener-Waterloo."
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas said the strong vote in favour of joining the 130,000-strong union fits a recent pattern.
"I'm pleased to say OPSEU continues to make solid progress in signing up new members right across the health care sector," he said. "We have plenty to offer these hospital professionals and they have responded in a very positive way. We look forward to working with our newest members and giving them a strong voice in their workplace."
Some 140 lab professionals at Grand River Hospital joined OPSEU last August.
