Dramatic new downtown showroom by Vanderbyl Design and Kiva Design presents latest workplace insights with French flair
TORONTO, Sept. 13, 2012 /CNW/ - Teknion Corporation today announced the official opening of its redesigned Montreal showroom. The 7,000-square-foot showroom has been registered with the Canadian Green Building Council with the certification goal of LEED-CI Platinum.
"Our striking new Montreal showroom brings something new and dynamic to the region. It's a great place for local architects, designers, facility managers, students and businesses to come together and share innovative ideas," said David Feldberg, President & CEO. "Teknion takes great pride in its long-standing presence in the Province of Quebec, with more than 800 employees working in five facilities."
The redesigned showroom is a vibrant, light-filled space which reflects the French culture of Montreal. This was achieved symbolically by taking a traditional French brocade pattern and creating a modern interpretation through manipulation into a high-tech modern dot pattern for use in the feature screen walls. These patterned walls are reverse stencil cut out of ¼-inch-thick aluminum panels, then finished in white. To further enhance the reflection of natural light, walls were removed to open up the space and a white, light material palette employed.
The overall palette creates a neutral stage to highlight Teknion's diverse product offering, while at the same time avoiding visual clutter. Echoing the products, the showroom design emphasizes the intelligent use of space, light and material resources. Environmentally sensitive materials were used throughout, as well as sustainable wood and wall finishes. The renovated showroom makes a strong design statement with minimal environmental impact.
Teknion's full-height Altos® and Optos® architectural products were used to develop a boardroom, conference room, kitchen and private offices, and to create the exterior demising walls delineating the building's common floor area and the Teknion showroom space. Recent award-winning products Sidewise™, LOGIQ™ and MAST™ are showcased in this new space, along with Dossier™, Expansion® Desking and Teknion's new synchro-tilt task chair Projek™. All Teknion office furniture is made with materials and finishing methods resulting in products that are certified to GREENGUARD® indoor air quality standards, with many products certified to GREENGUARD Children & Schools.
Teknion's showroom is located at 1010 Sainte-Catherine Street West in The Dominion Square Building, a landmark structure situated in downtown Montreal. Completed between 1928 and 1930 in the Beaux Arts style, the Dominion Square Building is a commercial office tower. It is located across from Dorchester Square, a large urban square inaugurated in 1872 that forms the focal point for pedestrain traffic in the city.
The showroom was designed by Vanderbyl Design. Established in San Francisco in 1973, this multi-disciplinary studio has expertise in identity, print and digital communications, interiors, furniture and product design. Kiva Design - a local firm with over 18 years' experience in planning, architecture, interior and sustainable design experience - was the architect of record. Tours of the showroom can be arranged by calling 514.875.2630. The showroom experience and products will also be enhanced digitally by an iPad app downloadable from the Apple Store at the end of September.
