Telefilm announces second Canadian film at Cannes: ZedCrew from 26-year-old
director Noah Pink to be at Directors' Fortnight
The new generation of Canadian filmmakers is out in full force at Cannes 2010
MONTREAL, April 20 /CNW Telbec/ - Telefilm Canada has announced that ZedCrew, a film directed by 26-year-old Canadian Noah Pink, will be presented in the 42nd Directors' Fortnight at the 63rd edition of the Cannes Festival, held May 12 to May 23, 2010. Films invited in this program were unveiled by the prestigious Festival earlier today. This is the second director from Canada to be invited at Cannes this year; last week, Telefilm announced that Xavier Dolan's film "Les amours imaginaires" will be presented at the Official Selection in the "Un certain regard" category.
"'It is both thrilling and humbling to have my work recognized by Cannes," says Noah Pink, Director of ZedCrew. "It is the very festival that put the first spotlight on so many of my favourite directors from around the world, those who inspired me to become a filmmaker. To say that I'm excited would be a gross understatement. I'm glowing!" he added.
"This is a very important year for young Canadian filmmakers at Cannes with Xavier Dolan's film picked up by the Official Selection and now Noah Pink's medium length film to be screened at the Directors' Fortnight. This is an achievement for the entire industry," said Sheila de La Varende, Director, National and International Business Development at Telefilm Canada. "The fact that Cannes programmers selected these titles is testament to the great talent of Canada's new generation of filmmakers," she said.
ZedCrew, a Canada/Zambia co-venture, is a medium length film directed by 26-year-old Noah Pink from Halifax, Nova Scotia. The film gives a unique and raw insight into the contemporary lives of urban Zambian hip-hop musicians. Director Noah Pink was recently selected to participate in the Talent Campus of the Berlin International Film Festival where his first feature film script I Am North was one of three international scripts presented in the event's coveted Talent Project Market.
Last week, Telefilm Canada announced that "Les amours imaginaires", Xavier Dolan's second film, is to be presented in the Official Selection in the category "Un certain regard" at the 63rd edition of the Cannes Festival. Another highlight for Canada at Cannes this year is director Atom Egoyan who will serve in the Festival de Cannes' 2010 Cinefondation and Short Film Jury as President.
