Telefilm Canada Congratulates Canadian Filmmakers Awarded at TIFF
MONTREAL, Sept. 20 /CNW Telbec/ - Telefilm Canada warmly congratulates all Canadian filmmakers awarded and mentioned at the 35th edition of TIFF, announced yesterday at an award ceremony in Toronto that marked the end of this year's edition of the Festival.
Canadian winners and runner-ups at yesterday's award ceremony include:
Denis Villeneuve for his feature Incendies, named the winner of The City of Toronto Award for Best Canadian Feature Film, picked from among 30 Canadian features that screened at this year's Festival. Earlier this month, the filmmaker was also awarded the 'Best Film of Venice Days' by the 27 Times Cinema Campus at the Venice International Film Festival.
Deborah Chow was awarded the SKYY Vodka Award for Best Canadian First Feature Film for The High Cost of Living, and Sturla Gunnarsson won the Cadillac People's Choice Documentary Award for his feature-length documentary Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie.
All three films were made with the financial participation of Telefilm through the Canada Feature Film Fund and its programs.
Vincent Biron was also awarded for his short film Les Fleurs de l'âge, awarded the Best Canadian Short Film by the Canadian Film Awards Jury, and writer/director Michael Dowse was the runner-up for the The Cadillac People's Choice Midnight Madness Award for the highly-anticipated sequel Fubar II, also financially-supported by Telefilm.
The 35th edition marked an exceptional year for Canadian cinema at the world-renowned Festival, with many high-profile premieres and lucrative distribution agreements, including U.S distribution agreements for such Canadian films as Incendies, Barney's Version and Casino Jack.
