Telefilm Canada pays tribute to the late André Lamy, former Telefilm
Executive Director and NFB Commissioner
MONTREAL, May 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Telefilm Canada wishes to pay tribute to André Lamy, who served as Executive Director of the Canadian Film Development Corporation, now Telefilm Canada, from 1980 to 1985, as well as Chair and Commissioner of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Mr. Lamy passed away a few days ago at the age of 77.
"On behalf of Telefilm Canada, I offer my sincere condolences to André Lamy's family and loved ones," stated Carolle Brabant, Telefilm's Executive Director. "Mr. Lamy, who died a few days ago, left a major mark on Telefilm given that, under his leadership, the organization developed a program dedicated to the television sector."
"André Lamy played a major role in the development of our film industry, making possible the production of many works that marked the last few decades and that enabled the industry to become what it is today. Mr. Lamy devoted his life to film, at Telefilm and the NFB as well as at a number of production companies," added Ms. Brabant.
Born in Montréal on July 19, 1932, André Lamy studied at l'Université de Montréal and McGill University. He served as Government Film Commissioner and Chair of the NFB from 1975 to 1979, after holding the position of Assistant Commissioner under Sydney Newman from 1970 to 1975. Following his tenure with the NFB, Mr. Lamy served as Executive Director of the Canadian Film Development Corporation, now Telefilm Canada, from 1980 to 1985, and then joined Galafilm as a producer.
