TELUS investing $17 million throughout Manitoba this year
By end of year, TELUS will have injected $380 million into Manitoba since 2000
Launching 4G LTE, the fastest and most advanced wireless technology in the world for customers at work, home and on-the-go
WINNIPEG, May 28, 2013 /CNW/ - TELUS is investing $17 million across Manitoba in 2013 to bring customers in the province the world's fastest and most advanced wireless technology, called 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE). By end of year, TELUS will have injected $380 million into Manitoba's economy through infrastructure investments and operations since 2000.
"This year's $17 million investment brings our customers in Manitoba the fastest and most reliable wireless technology available in the world," said Michael Sangster, TELUS vice-president. "Whether our clients are at home, at work or on the go we have the right tools for them, be it the latest smartphones for consumers or blazing fast wireless networks to enhance productivity for businesses. With more than 150 TELUS team members in the province and our investment of $380 million in new technology and operations since 2000, we are proud to be contributing to the digital economy of Manitoba."
TELUS' investment in communities extends past providing customers with world-class technology. As members of every community where we live and work, TELUS, its team members and retirees give where they live, supporting grassroots and community organizations across Manitoba.
"At TELUS, we give where we live, recognizing that our investment in local organizations through donations and volunteering is as important as our investment in technology and infrastructure," Sangster added. "Notably, since 2000 our more than 150 team members in Manitoba have helped us give more than $1.8 million to local charitable and community organizations, including the Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba who in turn supports the Winnipeg Children's Hospital, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, Cancercare Manitoba, the Red Cross and the Dr. Goodbear Golf Classic, where TELUS is the platinum sponsor for the third year in a row."
Just this past weekend, 13,000 TELUS team members, retirees and family members participated in the eighth annual TELUS Day of Giving, volunteering their time at more than 500 local activities nationwide, including several in Manitoba. They helped out at children's hospitals, fed homeless citizens, sorted thousands of pounds of food bank donations, pulled invasive plants out of cherished parks, and helped clean up and maintain the buildings and grounds of dozens of charities."
This year's $17 million investment across Manitoba is in line with TELUS' consolidated capital expenditure targets for 2013.
