NAIT students design green space next to TELUS House Edmonton
EDMONTON, May 3, 2012 /CNW/ - Darren Entwistle, TELUS President and CEO, today unveiled the winning design for the revitalization of the green space adjacent to TELUS House Edmonton. The design was created by NAIT Landscape Architecture program student Em Poole.
Three finalists from NAIT, Poole, Kira Hunt and Sam Pyper were announced. In the end, it was Poole who took the prize.
"I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the students for their submissions, which showcased their creative talents and technical skills. The designs were magnificent and exceeded our expectations," remarked Entwistle. "I want to personally congratulate Em Poole. Her design will bring TELUS Park to life with a festival vibe that includes open spaces for live performances and art shows. The TELUS team in Edmonton looks forward to collaborating with her to make her vision a reality."
Last June, TELUS announced it will invest more than $20 million in downtown Edmonton's TELUS House over the next two years for planned upgrades in and around the building. TELUS also extended its lease on 318,000 sq. ft. of office space in TELUS House in the heart of the city to 2026.
Included in this investment, TELUS undertook the revitalization of the green space adjacent to TELUS House Edmonton. Talented NAIT Landscape Architecture program students participated in a design contest to develop the space, which was to not only reflect TELUS' commitment to the community, but the strong heritage and cultural diversity within the city.
In honour of the winning submission, TELUS will donate $1,000 dollars in Em Poole's name to a charity of her choice. Poole, Hunt and Pyper also received both Apple iPad3 tablets and the newest iPhones from TELUS. Additionally, in appreciation to all the students who participated in the contest, TELUS has donated $5,000 to NAIT's Students Association.
