The Brain Exhibition to Southern Alberta
</pre> <p><span class="xn-location">CALGARY</span>, Alberta, <span class="xn-chron">April 29</span> /CNW/ -- Today, TELUS World of Science - <span class="xn-location">Calgary</span> and representatives from Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS welcomed the media for a preview of the world-renowned exhibition, opening tomorrow, <span class="xn-chron">Friday, April 30th</span> for the first time in Southern Alberta.</p> <p/> <p>"We are thrilled to be the first organization in <span class="xn-location">Calgary</span> to host an exhibition of this caliber. BODY WORLDS & The Brain presents a valuable learning opportunity for Calgarians and Southern Albertans and we are proud to offer it to our community," says <span class="xn-person">Jennifer Martin</span>, President & CEO, TELUS World of Science - <span class="xn-location">Calgary</span>.</p> <p/> <p>BODY WORLDS is the original and acclaimed exhibition of real human bodies that have been preserved through plastination, a revolutionary process invented by Dr. von Hagens. The exhibition displays the anatomy, physiology and effects of lifestyle choices on the human body through the scientific and enlightening display of more than 200 specimens including whole bodies, individual organs and transparent body slices. This Canadian premiere of BODY WORLDS focuses on brain development and function, brain disease and disorders and brain performance and improvement.</p> <p/> <p>"I hope Calgarians embrace BODY WORLDS in the spirit that Gunther von Hagens and I offer it, as a dramatic, memorable, beautiful exhibition that offers people unforgettable lessons about anatomy, disease, and health," explains <span class="xn-person">Dr. Angelina Whalley</span>, physician and creative conceptual designer who has planned exhibitions that have been seen by more than 30 million people worldwide.</p> <p/> <p><span class="xn-person">Dr. Gunther</span> von Hagens invented Plastination in 1977 in an effort to improve the education of medical students. He created the BODY WORLDS exhibitions to bring anatomy to the public. The organs and whole-body plastinates in the exhibition derive from people who have, in their lifetime, generously donated their bodies for Plastination, to specifically educate future generations about health. More than 10,000 donors including more than 1,000 North Americans, including 86 Canadians have bequeathed their bodies to von Hagens' Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg, <span class="xn-location">Germany</span>.</p> <p/> <p>TELUS World of Science - <span class="xn-location">Calgary</span> has undertaken a significant strategic transformation as the organization prepares for its move to the new science centre - scheduled to open in the fall of 2011 at the intersection of Deerfoot Trail and Memorial Drive. Beginning with BODY WORLDS & The Brain and following with two other blockbuster exhibitions, TELUS World of Science is focused on expanding its reach to new audiences, in new ways to give a taste of what can be expected at the new science centre.
