2014 Staples Canada Recycle for Education Computer Lab Contest Winners Announced
TORONTO, May 9, 2014 /CNW/ - Staples Canada, in collaboration with Earth Day Canada, announced the 10 winning schools in the 2014 Recycle for Education Computer Lab Contest. Open from January 6-February 21, 2014, the contest asked publically-funded elementary and secondary schools across Canada to submit an entry detailing their environmental initiatives for a chance to win 1 of 10 $25,000 grants toward a new computer lab or technology. Close to 700 schools entered.
"This is our fourth year running the Recycle for Education Computer Lab Contest, and we are more inspired than ever by the schools' passion for environmental education," said Steve Matyas, president of Staples Canada. "It's evident that the schools and students are dedicated to their environmental initiatives, and what better way to reward them than by giving them the technology needed to enhance their learning."
"The opportunity to see what some of the schools are doing in Canada was great, there is so much more going on than we could have ever imagined or hoped for," said Deborah Doncaster, president of Earth Day Canada. "It really inspired us and gave us confidence to take our existing programs even further."
The following schools were each told they won in a surprise assembly held earlier this week:
The schools each receive $25,000 from Staples Canada toward the purchase of new technology and computer lab equipment, plus:
