CAMPBELLFORD, ON, April 22, 2017 /CNW/ - A tentative agreement has been reached between members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), Local 316, and Community Living Campbellford/Brighton, meaning the month-long strike may be over.
"These workers drew a line in the sand, and stood up for the entire developmental services sector by taking strike action over fairness," said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. "I'm so proud of them, and I'm proud of the members from all over Ontario who came out in solidarity to the rallies and the picket line. I also extend my sincerest gratitude to the community and the families my members support. They stood behind Local 316 throughout the strike, and I know my members will never forget that."
The two parties met at the bargaining table again today at 10 a.m., and were able to come to an agreement within just over an hour.
Details are not being released pending ratification. Union members will vote on the deal Sunday, April 23. Voting opens at 10 a.m., and closes at 2 p.m..
