Modifications in Wireless Spectrum Policy benefit Canadian Consumers
MONTREAL, May 21, 2014 /CNW/ - In response to today's announcement by Industry Minister James Moore, TerreStar Solutions' President, André Tremblay said, "I applaud Prime Minister Harper and Industry Minister James Moore for their steadfast support and common sense policy of wireless competition in Canada. Their decision means better wireless services, lower prices, and more and better jobs for Canadians."
The Harper government's Advanced Wireless Service (AWS-4) spectrum consultation paper issued by Minister Moore reaffirms the Minister's commitment to increase the spectrum available for competitive wireless services in Canada.
Spectrum is the fuel that drives new technological developments, higher speed mobile services and lower prices for consumers. By modifying existing policies to make this spectrum available in Canada, the Harper government will foster lower prices and better services for consumers.
"This policy consultation and swift decisions on its issues by the Harper government are critical ingredients. They will attract new capital to the wireless market and make a fourth competitor in every region of the country a reality", concluded Tremblay.
TerreStar Solutions CFO and Treasurer, Jacques Leduc added, "This is the last regulatory milestone enabling TerreStar Solutions to become an active player in the Canadian wireless landscape. The national AWS-4 spectrum is critical for the wireless broadband network of tomorrow. It will allow affordable mobile Internet services to become reality for all Canadians."
A Montréal-based Canadian company, TerreStar Solutions was founded in 2008. It is licensed by Industry Canada for AWS-4 spectrum to provide mobile satellite and terrestrial services to all Canadians, regardless of location.
