WINDSOR, ON, June 9, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, the RCMP 'O' Division Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) laid terrorism charges in absentia against Ahmad WASEEM, 27 years old, from Windsor, Ont. He was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada for facilitating a terrorist activity (S. 83.19(1)); for participating in terrorist activity (S. 83.18(1)); and for leaving Canada to participate in the activities of a terrorist group (S. 83.181).
It is alleged that WASEEM departed Canada in November 2013 using a reported lost passport and went to Syria to fight for ISIS. Although there have been uncorroborated reports that he has died while fighting in Syria, the RCMP has no verifiable leads to confirm this information.
As this individual remains at large, an arrest warrant has been obtained and an INTERPOL Red Notice is being issued. The RCMP continues to work with its domestic and international partners in an attempt to bring him back to Canada.
The RCMP is asking the public to report any information on this individual or on other suspicious activities to the National Security Information Network at 1-800-420-5805 or by contacting the police in their community.
