OTTAWA, Jan. 11, 2012 /CNW/ - Textron Systems Canada Inc., a Textron (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today that it has moved into new office space in Ottawa, Ontario. This new office is located on Sparks Street in the capital's central district.
"Textron is a trusted supplier to the Canadian Forces. We are pleased to move into this new facility as we work to grow our business in Canada for Textron, such as through our bid for the Canadian Forces' Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle," said Neil Rutter, general manager of Textron Systems Canada.
Textron has a long-standing relationship in Canada, with two business units employing more than 1,800 Canadians. Bell Helicopter, a Textron company, was recently awarded a 10-year, $640 million contract to provide support services for the Canadian Forces CH146 Griffon fleet. In addition, over the last three years, Textron companies Bell Helicopter, Cessna, and Textron Systems, through its operating units Textron Defense Systems, AAI and Textron Marine & Land Systems, have procured more than $3.5 billion of supplies manufactured by Canadian companies.
In conjunction with Textron Marine & Land Systems, Textron Systems Canada is competing for the Canadian Forces' Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) program. With a successful contract award for TAPV, Textron Systems Canada plans to support the TAPV program with the addition of more than 300 long-term jobs from this office in Canada to conduct overall program management, including the 25-year In-Service Support contract, and the Industrial Regional Benefits (IRB) program.
The Textron TAPV is a 4X4 armoured combat, patrol and reconnaissance vehicle engineered to conquer the toughest terrain. If chosen, the Textron TAPV will provide the Army with optimal crew protection and mobility; with maximum blast protection, and best-in-class speed, acceleration, and maneuverability. This emphasis on crew protection, along with excellent off-road and urban mobility, makes the Textron TAPV the most reliable and technologically advanced TAPV in the world, and an exceptional choice for the Canadian Forces.
