TORONTO, Dec. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Groupe Média TFO announces the launch of EduLulu: the all new public service that will evaluate educational applications for tablets. Earmarked for parents and educators, EduLulu is the first Canadian public service that will offer independent evaluations of iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play) content available in the Canadian market.
EduLulu directly addresses the strong need expressed in the results of a Harris Decima poll of Canadian parents conducted last October. The poll shows that three out of four parents want a trustworthy evaluation service of educational applications. that provides pedagogical guidance about new applications in the market. In addition, 86 % of the parents polled said that everything related to mobile educational applications in Canada was of interest to them.
TFO has set up a panel of educational experts to develop, consider and update evaluation criteria for applications with educational value. To help make an informed choice regarding applications for young learners, TFO's Edululu will publish its results regularly to allow parents and educators to choose among a wide selection of educational content.
« The need to index and evaluate available applications for tactile tablets is essential. Evaluating the educational ones is imperative since we know young people use and will increasingly use them. The creation of a tool such as EduLulu will allow parents and educators across Canada to make relevant and informed choices regarding youth education. », stated Thierry Karsenti, a member of the Edululu expert panel and holder of the research chair of Canada on ICTs in education at Université de Montréal.
This first guide and index of Canadian educational applications will publish its first evaluation results in early 2014. « EduLulu is a visible demonstration, along with the Summit Les tablettistes, of TFO's capacity for innovation. Over the last year, Groupe Média TFO has undertaken numerous concrete initiatives aimed at the optimization of educational content on tactile screens, while giving special weight to development and learning opportunities. », indicated Glenn O'Farrell, President & CEO of Groupe Média TFO.
