OTTAWA, Dec. 11, 2017 /CNW/ - Canadians love their public broadcaster. Thanks to them, CBC/Radio-Canada doubled its digital reach two and a half years ahead of schedule.
The latest data from comScore shows that 18 million Canadians visited* our digital sites, on average, each month between April and October 2017. That's almost half of all Canadians, and double what it was when we launched our digital transformation.
"This shows that programs and services on our digital platforms are resonating with Canadians," said Hubert T. Lacroix, CBC/Radio-Canada's President & CEO. "I'm so proud of everyone at CBC/Radio-Canada who have worked so hard to make our digital transformation a success."
In 2014, we launched Strategy 2020: A space for us all to modernize our services and deepen our connection with Canadians in the digital world. A key part of this transformation was to double our digital reach, and to become more local and more ambitious in the programs we offer.
Not only did we reach our goal early, three-quarters of our visitors are now reaching us through their mobile devices, engaging with us, and with each other, all day long. Today, CBC/Radio-Canada is the number one online news and information sources in the country.
"This accomplishment helps us play a central role in supporting Canadian culture," added Mr. Lacroix. "We will keep building on this success. Digital is where Canadians are, and clearly where they want their public broadcaster to be."
