Thanks Ontario! More than one million dollars raised to help kids reach their full potential
BRAMPTON, ON, April 8, 2013 /CNW/ - President's Choice® Children's Charity announces that its two-week Your Small Change Can Make a Big One customer campaign held at participating Loblaw banner grocery stores like Loblaws®, Zehrs®, Your Independent GrocerTM, valu-mart®, Fortinos®, Real Canadian Superstore®, Real Canadian Wholesale Club® and nofrills®, across Ontario has raised more than $1,104,000. All money raised will go toward supporting Ontario families whose children have physical or developmental disabilities, as well as nutrition programs aimed at fighting childhood hunger. Nationally, the campaign raised $2.64 million.
"The support from our customers across Ontario has always been tremendous, but this year's spring campaign has been the best one so far," said Inge van den Berg, member of President's Choice® Children's Charity Board of Directors and senior vice-president, Corporate Strategy, Loblaw Companies Limited.
Monies raised through campaigns like this help children like Zachary, who need special equipment to be independent.
"Zach wouldn't be doing as well as he is without the help from President's Choice® Children's Charity," says Simon, Zachery's dad. "The therapy has Zach up and walking when he wasn't supposed to at all! President's Choice® Children's Charity has also helped us fund equipment and given Zach the opportunity to be independent and successful in his endeavors. We really can't say enough about what this means to us, and most importantly, what it means to Zach."
Funds raised also go towards fighting childhood hunger through nutrition programs at local schools like Flemington Public School, located in Toronto.
"It is amazing what a difference healthy food makes to ensure student success. Through the President's Choice® Children's Charity sponsorship of Breakfast for Learning our students receive nutritious food offerings at the beginning of the school day and are refueled with wholesome food during the remainder of their learning day," says Grace LaRocque, vice-principal, Flemington Public School, Toronto, Ontario.
In Ontario, Loblaws®, Zehrs®, Your Independent Grocer®, valu-mart®, Fortinos®, Real Canadian Superstore®, Real Canadian Wholesale Club® and nofrills® stores are Loblaw Companies banner stores. The Your Small Change Can Make a Big One customer campaign is just one of many initiatives that Loblaw banner stores have in place to raise funds for President's Choice® Children's Charity. To date in 2013, thanks to the generosity of customers, donors and the support of colleagues, President's Choice® Children's Charity has awarded $556,000 to 101 families and another $1.1 million to 923 nutrition programs that serve over 101,315 students across Ontario.
